dc.description.abstract Generally, demotivated employees are likely to have their performance decreased in a given organisation. How employees are treated, perceived and how they feel about themselves and ultimately their output directly or indirectly has an impact on their performance and progress of the organisation. The success or failure of any given organisation as a matter of fact depends largely on its employees; therefore, human resources are very crucial to the organisation as they are the key to productivity and performance. It is thus important for organizations to establish motivational programs that improve motivation and consequently, performance of both the organization and the individual employee. The main objective of this study was to examine the effects of motivation on the performance of employees using the case of First Allied Savings and Loans Limited, Adum branch, Kumasi. The study adopted both the quantitative and qualitative research design. The population of this study comprised all the employees of FASL Limited, Adum branch, Kumasi. The sampling frame for this study comprised a list of all employees that work at FASL Limited, Adum branch, Kumasi. The sample size thus was 54 employees. The data collection instrument that was used was a tailor-made questionnaire developed by the researcher, particularly for this study. The study among others showed that motivation has a direct effect on employees‟ performance. In conclusion, managers should know that employees are motivated by both non-monetary rewards and monetary rewards; yet monetary reward was much desired. It is recommended therefore that, there is need for managers to have a comprehensive motivation scheme in all aspects of an organization as this is directly proportional to the output of the employees as well as the diversed needs and expectations of employees. en_US
